I would get on some form of birth control now if you don't want to get pregnant. Don't leave it up to the guy.

You should start as soon as possible - Start your pill today if there is absolutely no chance that you could be pregnant. Use a backup method of contraception until your first period, by that time then the pill will have full effect.

The best form of birth control is a condom, which has the added bonus of preventing venereal disease. When you first become sexually active, use a condom. If the relationship continues--and if you are completely certain your partner is disease-free--you can then change birth control methods, if you choose to do so.

You're asking the question so now is probably the right time. Some birth control methods take time to become effective. Definitely start long before you have an opportunity for sex.

It depends on your age. I'm glad that you are not sexually active yet. If you have a regular period and no discharge of any kind then you are eligible to put yourself on birth control.
