If the environment would fit a short wedding dress, it is appropriate. If it is the dead of winter, you are in a conservative church, or the wedding is formal, it's inappropriate. But as the bride, you must decide if it will make your day happy and comfortable for you.

It is ok to wear a short wedding dress, when it goes with the groom's outfit (will look odd, when he is there super elegant), the venue (not a good idea in a church) and the general theme (tune) of wedding party. Make sure that the guests aren't overdressed either.

First, I would like to say-it's your wedding day! If you want to wear a short dress, wear one. But, as an alternative, you could always wear a long dress for your ceremony and then change into a shorter one for your reception.

A short dress is often appropriate if this is your second wedding, or a summer daytime wedding, or in a climate that would preclude a long and involved dress.
