Wait until the plant flowers before you transplant. Enjoy the flowers as it may take some time before they produce flowers again. Transplant in a pot one size larger than present container. After transplanting, water thoroughly and let dry out somewhat.

Any hydrngea is best transplanted when it is time for dormancy. In Zone 8 that would be late fall to mid-winter. Root a cutting just-in-case.

The best time to transplant a limelight hydrangea in Zone 8 is to wait until the hydrangea has bloomed. After transplanting it may take one or two blooming cycles until the plant blooms again. After transplanting water well and then let drain well. It is best to transplant during dormancy.

Either in the spring or the fall. Before the first freeze or after the ground has thawed and is workable and you are past additional freezes.
