When do you need to give your female dog worming medication when they are whelping?

Do not give worming medication (which is a small poison) to your dog until after whelping. Then you will need strict veterinarian advice to see if you can administer this to a nursing female. You need to be very sure of doses, etc and can't just administer an over-the-counter worming med to a bitch nursing pups.

It is best to give them dewormer before they get pregnant, then to deworm the female every time you deworm the puppies, so generally when they're 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks. Make sure you get a dewormer that is safe for very young puppies and for a nursing female.

Whelping is when the female is actually giving birth. A veterinarian needs to determine the need for worming treatments. Worming meds are poison; what the mom ingests, the pups get.

All dogs need to be dewormed at about two weeks of age. Deworming your dog should be a top priority and should be done once a month.
