-Melatonin: It's available as an over-the-counter supplement. Those supplements don't work for everyone, but they may be an effective insomnia treatment for you if you have a natural tendency to go to bed and get up much later than others. -Vitamin B12 is also a great supplement.

The best "insomnia supplement" varies from user to user. If you're having problems getting to sleep or staying asleep, refer to one of the Internet sites about sleep. Cut out caffeine and nicotine before bed. If you eat before bed, choose something light. Do not watch TV in bed. Try a simple breathing meditation in addition to OTC sleep aids.

Melatonin is a supplement that can be taken for insomnia. There are some side effects to taking it, so exercise caution. I've used Tylenol PM when I've had insomnia. The only negative. One side effect of taking it is drowsiness if you don't get 8 hours of sleep. You should consult your doctor before taking any supplements.

Melatonin, a natural hormone made by a small gland in the brain, controls sleep and can be effective in controlling a person's sleep cycle. Meats, grains, fruits and vegetables all contain small amounts of melatonin, but melatonin supplements are available without a prescription. Just be sure to get the supplements that are man made and not made from cow glands.
