What's the difference between lisinopril and Diovan?

Both lisinopril and diovan are used to treat high blood pressure. Diocan has to be used at a higher doasge then lisinopril , 160 mg versus 20 mg daily in most cases. Lisinopril users have reported a very severe dry cough that can be irratating , while diovan users report an 86% less cough complication.

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that slows the activity of ACE which is needed to make angiotensin II. Diovan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist which disables the receptors on the angiotensin II. Angiotensin II raises blood pressure. Lisinopril slows the production of angiotensin while Diovan disables it.

Both medications are used for the treatment of hypertension. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor. It works by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. (Binding of angiotensin II to its receptor in the arterioles causes vasoconstriction and elevated blood pressure. ) Diovan blocks the angiotensin II receptor directly.
