There is quite a big difference between the two with fiber optics having the greater speed. Fiber optics use light as the medium where packets would pass while broadband uses copper wires either inthe telephone lines or cable lines.

There is no specific definition for "broadband" although there is a legal one in the US meaning 5Mbps or higher. Fast connections include cable and DSL. Either of them can be transmitted across fiber optic lines to increase their speed. The real benefit is that it allows for much faster speeds in the future without additional upgrades on your end.

it depends, the theoretical maximum difference is huge, but no company will approach the maximum for fiber optic, the only real way to know is compare speeds between companies.

No difference at all. The only small difference being that broadband requires more upgrades over a period of time to maintain the optimal performance. Both broadband and fiber optics are means of direct non dial up internet but fiber optics remains the fastest even today.

Broadband is the general naming for non dial-up internet access. Examples are Cable, DSL, Satellite and Fiber optics. Among the listed, Fiber optics is the fastest.
