depending on your knowledge with cars you can place almost any engine in a car as long as the weight doesnt go over what the frame can hold. Your best bet would be to research the weight and attachments that your taurus currently features and try to find an engine with a likewise motor

In days passed you had the option to replace an engine with an array of different sizes and options but, not so much with the advent of fuel injection and emission controls. If you have a 2005 I would stick with a 2005 - right down to trim (SHO, etc).

If you have a 4 cylinder, the 2002 -2005 model engines will be most compatible. For the V-6 model, you will want to stick with the 2004 thru 2006 base.

The best thing to do is to find a junk yard that has a 2005 Ford Taurus with the motor that you have in yours and see the price.

Your best bet is to find out which of the two v6's you have and look for one at an auto recyclers. 2000 to 2007 may also work.
