What would cause my A/C to ice up?

Restricted air flow can surely be the problem. It is the moving air that provides the heat to keep the coils from freezing. When the filter and/or the pipes is covered by dust, the temperature will goes low and ice up. Or you is had the thermostat set two low.

Icing of A/C systems occurs when the evaporator temperature is smaller than 0°C. A root cause for this issue could be an incorrect setting of your expansion valve or compressor.

Your A/C lines and unit will ice up if the coolant line is not properly insulated. Moisture will seep through cracks in the insulation and freeze on contact.
