The child will be either A or B type. This is an absolute and is often used to type paternity without going further with DNA, but only DNA can be relatively foolproof. If the child were to be O, AB, or any derivation of A and B, DNA testing would be suggested for paternity issues.

The O blood type is actually the lack of an A or B antigen on the red cells. The O gene is a recessive gene, and since the father will contribute either an A or B gene, the child wil have a 50% chance of being Type A and a 50% chance of being Type B.
