the whig party was the same as the liberals as the liberals was the new formation of the whigs.

I suspect that the question is related to the American Revolution. The ideology of the Whig party was to break from the rule of England and to support the idea of a free country. In essence, the Whig party was one with the American Revolution. Without such a movement in America, the revolution could have failed to attain success.
