What was the French resistance like in World War II?

The French resistance was scattered among a number of factions. They made enough trouble for the Germans, that troops needed elsewhere had to remain. Wrecking trains, helping downed fliers and spying were some of the things they did. They contributed to the success of the D-day invasion.

They were not effective at all. Germany was able to conquere them in a matter of days and gain control of the entire country. Especially a strip of beaches called normandy.
