To propagate with cuttings, cut a 6 inch piece of fresh new growth. Dip cut end into rooting compound. Plant cutting in potting soil that's been watered prior to planting.

Cutting healthy stems about 5" long that contain at least several leaves each and putting in water is one way. Another way is to take cuttings, dip cut end in rooting hormone, then plant in a good potting soil, making sure container has a good drainage system. Place out of direct sunlightl

Trim any stray or wandering plants down to about an in to an inch and a halh but be sure you only do this about once every three to six years otherwise you will be over prunning and the plants will all start to die back on you. You can also talk to your local greenhouse about it.

Propogate Pachysandra with root cuttings. Cut a shoot approximately 5" long and strip leaves on lower half. Dip into root compound and bury about an inch into water soaked soil. Place under fluorescent lighting or indirect sun, keeping soil moist. Pachysandra should root within two weeks. Plant about 2" apart. This is a ground cover and spreads.

If you mean "how should Pachysandra be trimmed", you need to trim this gradual spreader back with hand shears, or a lawn mower at the highest setting.

Not sure which way you are going with the question, but here's an answer to both: To propogate the plant, cut a 5" piece off with at least 3 leaves on it and soak in water. To keep the plant neat and tidy, you just need to trim it back.
