Food stamps are typically governed under a separate program from unemployment. You do not have to be unemployed to qualify for food stamps you just have to earn less than a set amount. Unemployment generally only earns you a percentage of your previous salary in a monthly benefit. They may also help you find new employment.

Unemployment benefits are designed to help the unemployed with financial, educational and career assistance, but not food stamps. In order to receive food stamps, you must apply through the Family & Children Services agency in your state - depending on your family size, the average monthly food stamp allowance ranges from $100 to $500 per month.
