Your letter should state why you need the funds. Only certain expenses are allowed for this purpose: medical bills for you and your family, funeral expenses, purchase of a primary residence, expenses to prevent eviction or foreclosure, college tuition and repairs to your residence. You must also provide documentary proof.

First you should state what your hardship is, second you should explain how you intend to pay off the debt, this is very important. And of course thanks them for their time and give your contact information.

Just asking in not enough. If you have any supporting documentation like a large medical bill, foreclosure letter or down payment on a house include it with your application and explain why the consequences will be if you don't get the money.

You need to explain why you feel you should qualify for hardship. Make sure you list how many people are in your family and what your bills amount to.
