What should I know about wild grapevine control?

I have wild grapevines growing my yard. I'd like to keep them, but I need to control their growth.

Maybe you could use a metal or wood trellis and try tying the vines to it so that that your grapes grow in a contained area. It would be functional and at the same time be decorative too. Try a home improvement store for those stretchy green ties.

The best way to control wild grape vines is to use an oil based ester herbicide product. If you use this in the fall it is pretty effective in controlling them. Optimally you should apply to vines that are actively growing and make sure to get the root area.

You can prune the vines back every fall practically down to the ground and it will keep your wild grave vines under control. I cut back my Muscadine vines every October and they come back better than ever the next year so you may wind up getting even more fruit!
