Sometimes they can be helpful in diagnosing or treating Lyme disease or measuring progress but often Lyme tests are not accurate and symptoms are the most reliable way to diagnose and measure treatment; get a "Lyme literate medical doctor" who will be invaluable.

Tests showing borderline antibodies should be redone in four to six weeks because false positive results are possible due to the similarity between the Lyme antibodies and others.

Labs measure the level of antibodies that you have in your blood against the lime disease bacterium. Your level of infection will not show up right away.

A Lyme titer is a test for the existence of antibodies but they are not overly accurate. The best way to track the disease is to track the symptoms.

The first thing you should know is that a lyme titer is a test which checks for the prescence of antibodies, but does not indicate if the disease is present.

Lyme titers refers to the tests that would be done if your doctor strongly suspects you may have Lyme disease. If you have been in tall grass where either deer or mice might live, and if the physical symptoms are present, you would be tested in 2 steps. By using this process, doctors hope to avoid false positive results.
