Kidney stones are the same as in humans and just as painful. There are treatments and medication that can break-up the stones, but this would need to be done by a doctor. He can x-ray where the stones are and determine what procedure should be done on the cat.

Feline kidney stones occur when minerals form together in the urinary system which will cause the stone, or growth to form. These stones can cause your cat to have problems urinating. In most cases, they can be treated with a change in diet, but some cats require surgery.

Cat kidney stones, similar to human stones, form due to poor diet or not drinking enough water. Treatment is usually through diet and medication with surgery as the last resort.

They usually have to be removed surgical and can severely damage kidneys. Your cat can live without one if this is the case. Feed him canned food and make sure his diet is low in phosphorous, magnesium and protein. If your cat doesn't like canned food water down some dry food.

She will have some pain until the stone passes when she pees. That could take between a few days. If too large the Vet will prescribe something to dissolve it.
