What should I do if my new piercing is bleeding?

If the area is swollen, red, and/or particularly tender to even a light touch, it's probably infected. Clean it well with the solution your piercer should have provided you and be prepared to take it out, let the piercing heal, and start over. Your piercer should be able to answer any questions you have.

It is most likely infected. Do not take the ring out! For now, gently clean it with hydrogen peroxide, and then get an antispetic spray (such as Bactine) at a local drug store right away. If this problem persists more than a day, seek immediate medical treatment.

First apply copious amounts of antibiotic ointment. This may staunch the bleeding on it's own. If bleeding persists pack with gauze. If bleeding continues after four days seek medical attention.

Make sure you keep the piercing very clean and make sure it doesn't get infected. If is does get infected, you might need to take the piercing out to heal.
