You should check to be sure that the condensate line is flowing freely. Standing water combined with dirt from the air can cause odorous mold.

I would say that you need to check for any natural gas leaks as the companies generally put in a rotten smell so you detect the gas leak.

I would check all my ducts. Some sort of amimal may have chewed its way into it and died, thus the smell. If not then check the evaporator coil also. One of the two will more than likely be the issue at hand. When checking the coil make sure the unit is OFF, to avoid injury.

AC Unit is smelling because of Sewer gas. Pour a glass of water into the 2" drain pipe in the AC Unit. The problem will be solved.

In order to get rid of this smell you will need to remove the evaporator coil and clean in and around that area. You will also need to clean the drain pan several times
