He/she is probably all right but you should watch for bleeding, lethargy, vomiting, or dialated pupils. You should also call your pediatrician. If it was a very hard fall, go to the emergency room as even though you might not see any outward injury, internal bleeding can occur and the sooner it is caught the better.

Immediately check for cuts, bleeding, etc... and then call you pediatrician. They will ask you about the fall, your childs reaction to the fall and how they are acting. They will tell you to keep an eye out for changes in behavior. They will likely ask you to come in or tell you to call with any behavioral change / concern.

Keep and eye on him. He probably is just fine and you don't need to do anything. He may just get a good goose egg on his head. If he starts acting strange or passes out he may be suffering from a concussion and should be taken to the ER.

It depends at what level they hit their head at, if they are bleeding (and the amount), their level of conciousness, how they are feeling, if they have vomited, how alert they are. If you are worried though, take them to emergency or your family doctor.

If your child seems to calm down easily and continues to act like himself, he's probably fine, but if he's acting unlike himself, take him to an emergency room.
