The tubes are inserted to allow fluid to drain rather than build up and cause problems. If the fluid is clear, there is no need to be concerned. Fever, pain, yellow-tinged fluid are signs of infection.

The idea of tubes in the ears is to allow the fluid to drain so that it does not build up behind the ear drum. If the tubes are fairly new, it may take awhile for the built up drainage to subside. To prevent other types of drainage and possible damage, do not allow water into the ear.
