Question by  andrewschon (37)

What should I do about my Golden Retriever's bump on his lip?

I noticed it 2 days ago and I do not remember an injury.

It is possible that it is an infection in his mouth, or perhaps he bit his own lip and caused a bump. Take him to the vet to be sure.

Just because you don't remember an injury doesn't mean he did not get one. Keep an eye on it but don't worry for another week or so.

Your dog probably bumped his lip diving for the peice of meatloaf you put in his bowl! If the bump is there in 2 days, take him to the vet.

Well, if the bump on his lip is a bug bite or bee sting I would suggest dog related benadryl. If it's a red hard lump that doesn't seem to be dissapearing I would suggest to a vet biopsy. Hopefully, after consulting with your vet all you would need is antibiotics.

See if the gum is very red, press all the gum line and see if any white/yellow pus comes out. It is possible that he has a tooth abscess.

Give it another 4-6 days. If the bump does not begin to shrink or disappear completely, call your veterinarian. It is most likely nothing to worry about though.
