What possibilities are there for my IBM Thinkpad 390x with no boot up?

At this point its kind of limited what you can do. One choice is to replace the modem in your Thinkpad. Because this is an older computer you might want to consider getting a newer laptop they have come down in price & the newer models have many more features.

You can try to repair the operating system by inserting the xp/vsita/7 disc and selecting the repair option. If you cannot get past the Bios screen, try resetting the bios or reinserting the memory.

The best solution is to reinstall your Operating System. Malware may have damaged the boot function of your software. A second option is to check for BIOS updates and install that. If this does not solve the problem, it might mean that your hard drive or motherboard was damaged and that it will need to be replaced.

That depends on whether it just doesn't boot into Windows or whether it doesn't turn on. If it won't boot into Windows, try repairing or reinstalling Windows.

Hopefully the computer is actually booting the BIOS, but not your OS. If you don't see a BIOS screen, make sure the laptop has power. If there's power, the motherboard may be damaged and need replacing. If you do see the BIOS screen, the problem may be repairing/reinstalling your OS or replacing the hard drive.

That depends on the reason the Thinkpad won't boot. If it's due to hardware failure then you should recycle your computer. But if it won't boot because the operating system is corrupted then install a new OS. For such an old computer Damn Small Linux or antiX would be good.

All computers have to boot up no matter what. However, you can leave your computer on so when you need to use it, you don't have to boot it up. You can save electricity with stand-by or hibernate.

If you don't see a BIOS screen, make sure the laptop has power. The motherboard may be damaged. If you do see the BIOS screen,may be reinstalling hard drive.

check if the power supply is working properly, then check if the hard disk of the machine is good and in working condition, then check if the RAM is giving a beep sound, if these things do not work then you need to contact IBM service center for further advice

If you have changed the operating system I would keep the original one. My Notebook didn't worked properly because of driver issues. You could also check for BIOS Updates because the ThinkPads BIOS is very rich on new functions.

I removed the yellow battery which reset my bios, pop the hard drive, memory, and batteries back in and VOILA, up it came with a date/system error (expected) and I was able to go in to the bios, setup the date/time and boot back in to XP.
