There are many ways a workplace can be holstile. One way is when your boss ignores your ideas or input on work-related projects. Another is when your boss belittles you or is critical of you in front of other co-workers.

The action that makes for a hostile workplace is talking behind other people's backs. They always find out, so if you can't say something to someone's face, you shouldn't say it at all. The resulting tension is deadly for the work environment.
