I prefer to use Purina's Tidy Cats cat litter. It, in my honest opinion, is the best cat litter in the market. Since you have a Persian I would recommend getting the version that doesn't clump. This is because sometimes the clumping version of Tidy Cats gets stuck on the tail.

Clumping cat litter is much more easy to sift through. I find that it keeps odors down because the box is thoroughly cleaned of urine each time I scoop. The downfall is that the scoopable litter sticks to the cat's paws and ends up on the floor surrounding the box.

Persian cats are like a very clean litter box. You can use scoopable litter, as I heard it is actually the one preferred by most Persian cats.

Because of the length of the fur, the typical cat box with the normal litter is not a good idea. What is recommended in this case wood be dust-free wood stove pellets.

Generally the best litter is whatever they will use! If your cat was raised or trained with a particular litter as a kitten it's best to start with that. If you gradually switch, clumping litter may be easier, but it can be harmful if your cat ingests it.

While clay litters have their issues, they can't be beat for price and clumping ability. Try unscented varities, they're less obnoxious. Also Nature's Miracle brand is flushable, more natural (thus biodegradable), and good at clumping.

There are wood stove pellets. They work at eliminating the odors and they are completly dust free. You will want to clean it regularily.

With long haired cats, you will want a litter that's fine, something will not stick to the hair. If the cat is declawed you will also want a finer litter.

Persian cats can have long hair if not shaved shorter, litter from the box will get caught in their fur. Try non clumbing litter because it might not get stuck as easly to the fur.
