I would use an assortment of candy, preferably brightly colored. Alternately, depending on if it is a boy or girl you can use pink or blue candy. Always make sure that it is bite size. I would avoid using chocolate unless it is covered because it will melt and make a mess.

Anything that is cutsey and colorful should work. For instance pastel m&ms or even different colored hershey kisses would work nice. The kinds of candy that comes out around easter time would probably look great in a centerpiece. I would just stay away from anything big and bulky, or gummy.

How about reception sticks. You can get these almost anywhere. They are chocolate coated hard candies and I love them.

They sell candy pacifiers, which would work well. Also, pale cotton candy would work - those pastels work for boy or girl themes.
