The traditional way of inking in comic books is to use black India ink with a steel-nibbed "quill" pen or a sable brush. It depends greatly upon the inker, the comic book itself, as well as the brand and when it was produced. In the older days it was common to use india ink, but today a lot of work on comics is done digitally or with markers and pens.
