John Profumo was a British politician. He had an affair with a woman who was a Russian spy, thenhe lied about it when questioned. This forced his resignation amid much scandal and rumor, and did great damage to PM MacMillan's government. MacMillion subsequently resigned.

John Profumo was a high ranking member of the British government in the early 1960's. It was discovered that he had an affair with a call girl who was also see an alleged spy for the Soviet Union. Mr. Profumo lied about the relationship and was not only forced to resign his position but also served prison time for perjury.
