The format of the ps2 varies from country to country. In america, we use NTSC, and over sea's they use Pal. This refers to the framerate and resolution of the video, which only certain players can read certain data. If your system is pal, it will require everyting to be pal, including games and format data.

A PAL operating PS2 will need to have PAL formatted video or data stream to effectively run. This means that any standard NTSC formats that are the majority in the United States will not play on this type of system.

Different regions encode different video software. PAL refers to European formatting and NTSC refers to North American formats. They are region locked and a video or game from one region cannot be used on a device from a different region.

You do not format anything, PAL is the video standard and you can only play games and DVDs that are in the PAL standard.

The format of the PS2 is PAL so it can play only PAL region games, and that means all Europe and Australian regions
