The purpose of a fixed pulley is to change the direction of the force. The fixed pulley does not have a multiplicative property of force, that means that the force does not necessarily increase. The usefulness is related to the desired direction of movement.

The purpose of a fixed pulley is to change the direction of a force. For example, if you wanted to get a load into a tree-house, you could attach a pulley to a branch, tie the load to the rope, and from the ground pull it up to the tree-house.
