What is the proper height of a flag pole?

There is no specific guide for the height of a flag pole, however if you are displaying the American flag, it should always be on the highest flag pole available. Other flags, such as a State flag, should be on slightly lower poles. A flag pole company can help determine the correct height of a pole for a flag's size.

This depends on region as well as flag. Usually it is recomended that the pole be somewhat taller than the flag itself so that should the flag drape it does not hit the ground. Also important is to make sure that your flag pole is not so tall that it interfears with local air traffic.
