The perfume hoax is a story claiming that people have been drugged or poisoned by perfume samples. Supposedly criminals or terrorists mail the samples or spray the person in a store. The person is then attacked, robbed or killed. The story is not true.

There is an urban legend making the rounds about people that try to sell you perfume and when you take a sniff of it, it knocks you out. Whether or not there is any truth to that, one should NEVER approach people selling wares out of a van, etc. Always be on guard, sorry to say, and trust no one.

The perfume hoax is where criminals are supposedly approaching women in parking lots offering to let them smell a free sample of perfume, but when they spray them with it, it's actually ether and the women are then kidnapped, robbed or assaulted. There have been no actual known cases of this happening, but the urban legend is persistent.
