It would depend on the state where the assault took place. Most states have become more strict in punishments for people who assualt any lawmen. Most states give at least some prison time and in some causes a lifetime imprisonment is given to the offenders. This is not a crime taken lightly.

It depends what state you live in, but you are looking at a felony charge of some sort. It will either be a felony in the second degree or a "Class B" felony. Either way, expect up to 6 years in prison and good luck finding employment.

In most jurisdictions, it would be a "class A" felony. This is usually the most serious classification (except first degree murder), and is usually punishable by up to life in prison.
