Because it is loose incense - either a powder or small nuggets of resin - you need to buy a censer or container, and some self-lighting charcoal as well. Many religious goods stores have the charcoal; fewer have individual censers.

Frankincense is the most common incense used during Catholic mass but other varieties are available. You might get a better idea if you ask the priest, subtly, what type of incense they use. If you do not wish to do this you could check out any of the Catholic supply company websites and purchase whatever type you like.

The incense used in Catholicism is burned resin from Eastern or Tropical countries. Catholic incense when burned gives out a white smoke. It is used ceremoniously especially during mass time.

I believe it is the rose wood incense that is used. You can purchase it anywhere from the dollar stor to even online. Go check on ebay for good rates.
