What is the etiquette on inviting the grooms parents to the wedding?

It is absolutely appropriate to invite a grooms parents to a wedding. regardless of the current situation the relationship will not get any better, and in fact will only get worse if you don't invite immediate family to a wedding. The short term feeling of benifit simply isn't worth the long term damage not inviting them will do.

There needs to be at least a token invitation, unless there is so much tension that it would be unbearable.
