Some winet experts say Cabernet Sauvignon is the driest of the red wines. Other good dry ones are: Chianti, Valpolicella, Merlots, pinoit Noirs, syrahs. You could always try the driest of the white wines, which is chardonnay. Dry red wine pairs best with red meat dishes or pasta dishes, and good chocolate.

The proliferation of modern winemaking has blurred the lines between traditional winemaking styles, wines may be found in stores with varying levels of residual sweetness. The best way is to try to look on the labels - for example "Brut Nature"is wine with no added sugar.

Wines that really do not have any residual sugar (which is what causes that dry taste) are referred to as bone dry. I think Syrahs are like that. It is one of the driest reds I have had, but I used to be a white wine person and am just now getting into the drier, smoky red wine.

There is no particular type of grape that leads to a very dry wine. Rather, any variety exists in sweeter and drier versions. Look at the brix info.

Some of the driest red wines are red Cabernet, but merlot, chiantis, and Pinoit Noir are also considered to be dry wines. The red Cabernet is considered driest among most.

Wines are not rated to their "dryness", since this is a subjective appreciation of a wines tannin contents. To a person, a particular wine might seem "dry" or "astringent", while it seems light to somebody else. Even a wine "variety" doesn't determines the tannin content. Some french varieties you might want to try are: Malbec, Shiraz, and Pinot Noir.

Cabernet Sauvignon when made properly is probably the driest red wine you can get. There is no residual sugar present. Cabernet is also very tannic, therefore it will cause a drying sensation in your mouth.

It all depends on how long the winemaker allowed the fermentation to continue. If he/she wanted to, they could make sweet Cabernet, sweet Chardonnay too. It's just not the popular thing to do.

The driest red wine is a cabernet sauvignon. Cabernet sauvignon is typically has a lot of tannins in it that help it age well. They make your mouth feel dry.
