What is the difference between dogs and wolves?

The biggest difference is that dogs are domesticated, and wolves are wild animals. Wolves are generally bigger and considerably intelligent than dogs. Wolves don't bond with humans readily the way dogs will. Wolves have complex pack structure that dogs don't. Wolves are active and able hunters, while many dog breeds have lost that talent. Dogs can be trained, wolves can't.

The main difference is domestication. A wolf, unlike a dog, is a terrible pet and uninterested in pleasing humans. Wolves are rangier with bigger paws, teeth and brain. Their eyes are almond shaped rather than rounds.

Wolves are wild animals, and dogs are pets. They have different DNA and different habits adapted to fending for themselves as wolves, or being part of a human society as dogs. They are not as alike as they look.

Wolves are the main species of ancestor for many breeds of dogs. Wolves for the most part are also purebred. Wolves are also obviously wild animals and belong there. However; many breeds of dog can be bred with wolf to create a half-breed or other wolf type mix.
