Boils are bacterial infected abscesses deep within the skin that often requires medical care. Cystic acne is a form of boil. Common acne is a surface congestion of the pores that does not penetrate the deep layers of the skin and goes away much faster and the infected debris is much easier to remove.

Boils produced due heat in the body whereas acne comes due to dirty skin. So acne is outside the body body problem i.e. surface level problem. Boils is an inside the body problem. Acne can be controlled by keeping skin clean. Boils can be controlled by keeping the body cool.

The differences between acne and boils are quite a few, one of them is size and general under-skin location. Acne is caused by dirty and grease, boils are caused by infection beneath the skin. Acne medication will not get rid of boils. Boils have to be lanced, they are filled with pus.
