What is the difference between a foundation and a charity?

I've never seen the two words used to describe the same organization. What is the difference?

For a charity it could be that the organization is specifically not for profit, where a foundation, technically speaking, could in fact be a business that has paid staff there.

A foundation is usually something that is founded and run by one person, these are the places that usually have the name of a person used to describe them. A charity is something that takes several people to run, and is sometimes founded by a group of people. Usually when people donate to charities they donate goods.
