What is the deepest that man has traveled into the ocean?

I am curious about how far man has actually explored, we have so much more to learn about the ocean.

The deepest that man has traveled into the ocean is the bottom of the Mariana Trench which has a depth of 36,201 feet. It was explored by U. S. Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh and Jacques Piccard in the US Navy bathyscaphe Trieste.

On January 23,1960 Jacques Piccard and Navy Lt. Don Walsh dove to the bottom of the Marianas Trench, the deepest spot in the Pacific Ocean. The submersible that they used was named the Trieste. Since this accomplishment, no other manned ships have attempted to reach the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

I thought you were kidding about the "Jacques Piccard" part (because he was also a character on Star Trek), but I just checked a few more sources, and indeed Piccard was on that voyage.  add a comment
