What is the best metal for an engagement ring: platinum or white gold?

Platinum is that absolute most amazing metal you can buy. It's more expensive, it lasts longer, and even if there was a fire, it wouldn't melt like gold would. But having said that, it's entire dependent on what your fiance likes more. Gold can be more sentimental.

They say platinum will last longer because it's a harder metal and will wear better. It also will come with a huge price tag. White gold will be more affordable and will last just as long. Compare the both at a high end jewelry store and see if you think it's worth the higher price.

If you want one thats going to last better with time and at the same time keep its worth, you might want to go with a platinum. While it is more expensive, they are more durable and the cost of it will always be high, so you will get your moneys worth.

Platinum is considered the superior metal. The other issue with white gold is overtime the "white" will start to wear down and it would have to be replated. However, you will pay a lot more for platinum.
