This term is mostly used in legal writing, and refers to the age at which a citizen is considered an adult. At the age of majority your parents cease to legally be responsible for you, and those rights are passed on to you. This age varies based on government, but in most western countries it is 18.

The age of majority is the exact opposite of the age of minority. This means that when someone reaches the age they are no longer legally considered to be a minor they have attained the age of majority. Different locations and different circumstances have different ages of majority. Check your local laws for more information.

The age of majority is when an adult becomes legal, that is the age of legal capacity. so in the United states it will be 18years and above. Therefore it means that when a person can legaly sign a contract without it being voidable, so some states its 18 years and othere 21years old.
