This occurs when the kneecap slips out of place and causes torn ligaments. Therapy and surgery are options. Therapy is the first option. To prevent further injury, a knee brace is used to keep the kneecap in place. Proper shoes should be worn. Causes are sports injuries or falls.

The kneecap or patella, moves in a groove that is there, at the end of the thigh bone. When patella comes out of the groove, it causes patella subluxation.

Patella or the knee cap dislocation is called subluxation of patella. It normally happens to dogs of small breed and in cats. It is also found in humans. For humans this condition happends due to any blunt trauma to the knee and due to damage of anterior cruciate ligament.
