I'm not sure what people are talking about.

Impedance is one of the measures of quality for microphones, relating to the opposition that the device has to AC current. The lower impedance is, the better quality the microphone will have. However, low impedance devices will generally cost more. Lower impedance devices generally have shorter cords as well, as a longer cord can cause higher impedance.

The impedance of a microphone is a measure of how much the internal circuitry of the microphone opposes the passage of an electrical signal through it. High quality microphones have low impedance and work well over long cables, but they are also more expensive.

Impedance is a measure of an electrical devices' resistance to current. In the case of microphones lower impedance is generally considered better.

It is an term common in electronics used to measure the amount of opposition of an electronic device to an AC current (just like an audio signal), and generally speaking the lower this value the better is the acoustic device performance
