What is "isolated systolic hypertension"?

Isolated systolic hypertension is when the top number of your blood pressure is much higher than normal. It can be caused by a leaking heart valve or a hyperactive thyroid gland. If untreated isolated systolic hypertension can lead to stroke, kidney problems, dementia, heart attack, blindness and other complications. If untreated it can be life-threatening.

isolated systolic hypertension is defined as elevated systolic blood pressure while the diastolic number is normal. If not treated can lead to increased risk of sroke, heart disease, kidney damage

Normally considered hypertension is 120/80mm of Hg. systolic hypertension 140 & diastolic 90. This is a common type of BP considered as isolated systolic hypertension. It's problematic if it crosses its range. It can lead to Stroke, Kidney disease, heart disease.

isolated systolic hypertension nothing but blood pressure which is due to fear, stress or excitement and is normally at its lowest during sleep. And this is not life threatening.
