A small scraping tool can be used to clean off the surface layers of grime from a wooden rifle stock. Then a damp rag can remove the excess.

You can use just about wood cleaning product. Murphy's Oil Soap diluted with water works well. Wipe the wooden stock with a damp (not dripping) cloth dipped in the Murphy's solution. Then buff it dry with a soft, clean cloth. Make sure the gun is completely dry before storing it.

Most wood stocks are finely crafted and should be cared for like the best furniture. There are special products for cleaning gun stocks. Check in with a reliable dealer of firearms for the best advice.
