What is igneous rock and how is it formed?

it is derived from the Latin word igneus that means fire . igneous rocks form 90% of all rock types in the earth's crust in thin,widespread and hidden layers . it is one of three kinds of rocks and considered the primary rock type. it is formed from magma after it cools down and solidifies.

Igneous rock is rock that is formed by heat, i.e. it was formed from molten material. Most igneous rocks on the surface of the earth came from volcanoes or volcanic activity. Basalt, also known as "volcanic glass", pumice, and granite are the most common igneous rocks.
