What is dry red wine?

I know this may sound stupid, but what is dry red wine? I don't know what that is referring to. Isn't all wine wet?

'Dry" refers to the sensation that the wine leaves in your mouth. The 'dryer' the wine, the more you feel that moisture has been drawn out out of your mouth. This has nothing to do with the liquid, but with compounds called tannins present in wine, some wines will have more than others.

Dry red wine is red wine that contains little of the grape sugar. Almost all of it fermented away into alcohol and CO2. Most red wine is dry (less than 5 grams of sugar per liter). Do not confuse astringent wine (sensation of dryness) and dry wine.

The dryness of a wine has nothing to do with being wet. Dry wine has all or most of the sugars fermented into alcohol. The opposite of dry wine is sweet wine, or wine that has some residual sugar that has not been changed into alcohol by the fermentation process.

It isn't a stupid question. Dry wine refers to the fact that there is little to no sugar left in it from the fermentation process. Basically, the yeast used consumes all the sugar. Hope that helps.
