By definition it an unlawful, improper act. It is offened used to describe adultery, lude and or secret sexaul acts committed by two or more persons. These types of encounters are conducted "undercover so to speak", as not to be found out by spouses or law enforcement.

An illicit encounter is a euphemism for meeting someone you're not supposed to, usually for the purpose of being intimate. This is also known as a rendezvous or an affair, although an affair usually lasts longer than one night.
